Airport Plateaus and Floating Buildings
(1/1)
TomG628:
I was wondering if the Airport Plateau issue has anything to do with buildings floating around some airports? Thanks. Tom
JustinFSG:
No, the floating buildings are usually due to layering issues. Or buildings coded with absolute altitudes instead of relative altitudes.

Hi Justin.
Nick over at F1 says my "floaters" at airports are due to FSG and the DVD v2?
He says that maybe the download version of FSG with less detail would perhaps correct the floating buildings at random airports??
Is there a fix/patch/update for this issue and for too many airports with bad elevations???
Thanks..
Ken

Hello Ken,
Up to now my floating buildings all disappeared after the scenery got some time to "relax" after using the slew mode. Sometimes I even had to re-launch the respective situation. The only thing I'm wondering about is the mass of elevated airports, lakes and rivers. Two friends of mine, flying with me online each Sunday are not reporting such "landmarks". Sometimes they do have a significant different airport elevation (not necessarily closer to reality) but obviously fitting better to the landscape. Their terrain mesh product is a different one and sometimes I'm even thinking on trying it (it doesn't make me poor). I already sold about all available weather programs in order to find the best for OVC conditions and I might decide to rearrange my mesh as I did in FS9 in order to check just by file-switching the differences. It seems to me that at least one competitor has done something with the landclass files as well. The problem is, I'm not sure.

JustinFSG:
HI Ken,
There isn't anything in FSG terrain mesh is capable of changing the altitudes of buildings. It could change the elevation of the terrain under the buildings, and if the buildings are placed with an absolute instead of a relative altitude, there could be a problem.
I've also seen this to be a cache problem, because if you leave the airport with floating buildings and do a long-enough round trip, when you return the buildings are where they're supposed to be.
