Alternative install options?
« on: February 13, 2012, 05:34:19 PM »
Hello Justin,

Would it be possible installing all mesh files in just one folder within or even outside FSX?  Would it hit the performance if using just one folder or would it be better to split into regional ones? If the answer is "yes, in principle": is it just a search for "FSGdem*.bgl"? I used the installers and just a few ZIP downloads and therefore I did not have full control all the time.

Regards,
Axel

Hi Axel

Yes, you can put all the FSG BGLs into the same Scenery folder and add that folder to Scenery Library.  The default method is just the easiest for most.  If you want to tinker around turning it on and off, the procedure is a little more complicated, and can be as complicated as you want it to be, into regions, or whatever.  As far as in-game performance, it really doesn't matter where you install it.  Initial loading may or may not take longer, I don't know.  Mostly depends on how many installed elevation points have to be loaded in order to create the scenery surrounding your aircraft's location

Yes, every FSG terrain mesh file begins with "FSGDem"

Thanks Justin,

I was already thinking that you are going to ignore my postings because of my quite frustrated PM regarding the mass of mesh errors I found in South America (along the Andes). However, I hope that you will find a possibility to correct such things as you did for some scenery problems in FS9 before.

Regards,
Axel
