NextMap versions for FS9 and FSX the same?
« on: March 10, 2012, 05:37:41 PM »
Justin,

I want to take advantage of the sale and get the NextMap mesh.   There is a comment next to the FS9 version that it can be installed into FSX manually.   Does that imply that it's identical to the FSX version just without an installer for FSX?

I don't want to buy both if there is no need, but I want both if there are quality differences.   Please advise.  Thanks.

-Neil

HI Neil,

No, not the same.  The FSX version is native-FSX.  The FS2004 is native FS2004, but there is forward compatibility FS2004 terrain to FSX.  But there is not backward-compatibility FSX to FS2004.

One difference is that FS2004 terrain can only have one resolution per BGL file.  FSX terrain can have all resolutions contained in the same BGL file.

FS2004 version is 19m horizontal resolution.  FSX version is 10m horizontal resolution.

Hope this helps
