Urban areas horribly overpopulated!
« on: March 08, 2008, 05:26:41 PM »
I am running FSX with Ultimate Terrain X.  (Only reason I really got UTX was because they don't offer USA Roads by itself anymore!)  I am also a real pilot and fly out of KOCF (Ocala Florida) quite often.

With FSX, (no addons) the terrain looks just about realistic.  More "Rural" than "Urban".  Add UTX, and I get TOO much "Urban" in areas where it shouldn't be!  (Already discussed this with them...)

Purchased FSGenisis US Landclass for FSX in the hopes that it would be more accurate, and NOW I have URBAN areas all next to the taxiway at the airport and houses ON THE AIRPORT itself!  WHAT GIVES??

With FSGenisis Landclass, I was hoping that I would get the rural areas to be rural, and urban to urban, but now I have TOO much urban area!  In FS9 KOCF and surrounding area looked realistic!

Am I doing something wrong?  My "add on scenery" is just above the "UT Vegetation" as mentioned in other threads,.

I realize this is just a simulator, but again, FS9 looked just about perfect!  I now have townships where they shouldn't be!

Any help would be grateful!

Terry

HI

If you're running UTX, it is for the most part handling the urban areas and FSG is handling the rural areas.

Justin,
I found that some rural areas had pieces of urban landclass (using FSG landclass). It was easy to correct this with SBuilderX. The perfect landclass is a lifetime task that is similar to the Golden Gate bridge - finish it and it is time to go back and re-do because of population and agricultural changes.

The question - is there an better landclass for the USA available when compared to the data you used for the current landclass product. If yes, is it a planned new product?

While some now have terabyte disks,  for photo-scenery these are trivial if you consider the USA covered with photos. Only the most wealthy simmer, with their own data center, could afford the needed hardware. Thus synthetic landclass will be with us probably through the next FS incarnation but hopefully at a much smaller tile size and with blending.

I suppose (somehow) I could disable the "UTX urban" areas, but then it's TOO sparse!  There has GOT to be some happy medium without me having to do the landclass myself in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply,

Terry

The FSG FSX landclass is pretty accurate for the urban areas and towns, being compiled directly from 2001 source data.

Well, that was my hope when I purchased it!  To the best of your knowledge, do I simply disable the "UT landclass - urban" and that should do it?  Is there anything else I should do / know?  I really don't want to be playing "forum tag" over this subject.  I've also tweaked my "autogen density" and "scenerey complexity" down a bit, but really haven't come to any happy mediurm.

Thanks,

Terry

HI Terry,

Yes, that should do it.
