Honduras data coverage?
« on: August 27, 2007, 05:15:18 PM »
Hello,

I recently installed FSG's World Mesh and also FSG's North American mesh.  The North American mesh goes down to Guatemala/Honduras (some of the INEGI data for Mexico I presume).  South of that, appears to be SRTM.

However, there appears to be a "gap" in coverage in eastern Honduras, east of a longitude line running from Trujillo on the Caribbean coast, south almost to Catacamas, and East to Puerto Lempira.

*is* there such a gap in the data? or have I missed installing a file somewhere?

FSX.  It's a big, big area.  A perfect rectangle of lower-res mesh about 300 miles E-W and 200 mi N-S with the boundaries I mention above.

Nothing missing to my knowledge.  Did you install manually or use the autoinstaller?

Manually...so I am hoping I didn't miss a file or two.

FSGdem0303_mex.bgl  and _FSGdem_0303.bgl
are the two files I have in the 0303 sector.

Checking TMFViewer, I see that  FSGdem0303_mex.bgl  covers only a the east coast of Yucatan/Belize and a part of north central Hondo...*BUT* it stops at 86 deg West longitude.

Checking TMFViewer, I see that _FSGdem_0303.bgl covers most of the 0303 sector...*BUT* it stops at 15 degrees North latitude in Honduras.

What file is supposed to cover Honduras North of 15 deg N latitude and east of 86 deg West longitude?

Am I missing a file or two in the 0303 sector?

Thanks,

Rhett

Hi Rhett,

Looks like that little sector is missing in my data.  I'll have double-check my INEGI data to see if it's covered there, or else the SRTM.  In any case, It's now on the list for next update later this month.

Thanks

Ah that's ok, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.  I assume the SRTM data did cover that area.  I hope it did because I don't know of any data source for it other than SRTM.

The Honduran govt does not like to release much data about airports, much less terrain...at least that's according to a native Honduran I corresponded with who is designing some scenery down there.

I did remove my manually installed files and went ahead and installed to the default locations with the installers.  I figured if I did miss a file, the automated install would fix me up.
