Dual Boot question
« on: September 01, 2007, 03:15:42 PM »
Hi Justin -

Set up anew system to dual boot XP and VISTA. Have them installed in different partitions. FSX is installed on it's own RAID 0 array with the drive letter common to both OS.

If I install FSG under one system do I also need to install it under the other to keep registry entries straight? Also then what happens to the backup process and uninstall process. Won't the "second" install be backing up the files from the "first" install?

I'm guessing that if I don't use the auto install I can do it manually altho I'd have to redownload the individual files.

Any suggestions? Ultimately if I want to use DX10 I'll have to use Vista alone but for now.......

Thanx,

Vic Baron

Hi Vic,

Unless I am mistaken, you'd have to install FS to both systems. and I would think there would be separate install/uninstall data for each OS.

Install FS or FSG?

I installed FSX under XP to the F: drive. I then switched to Vista and installed FSX again to F:Drive - overwriting old install but setting correct registry. Now, whichever I boot has FSX in the right place.

If I'm in XP and I install FSG - what will happpen when I run FSX from *Vista*? And, if I reinstall FSG under Vista ( to the same location ) what happens with the file backups that FSG makes?

Sorry if  didn't make that clear first time!

I'd guess that if you install FSG, say, under XP, to the default location, that the Vista version of FS will pick it up fine, since those folders are already registered in Scenery Library.  If you don't install to the default location, you'd have to install the FSG again for the Vista FS to know about it.

Worked like a charm! INstalled to default location under XP and Vista is happy as a clam.

Thanx!
