FSGenesis files have strange underscore
« on: January 15, 2010, 05:24:54 PM »
Hey gurus,

I just bought the FSGenesis World terrain mesh. I did a search to see if the files had installed correctly.
There were 60 in total. 21 of those were the first files in the respective folders due to an underscore at the beginning of the file name, shown as follows...

_FSGdem_0302, _FSGdem_0303, _FSGdem_0501, _FSGdem_0502, _FSGdem_0600, _FSGdem_0601, _FSGdem_0602, _FSGdem_0604, _FSGdem_0700, _FSGdem_0701, _FSGdem_0702, _FSGdem_0802, _FSGdem_0901, _FSGdem_0902, _FSGdem_0904, _FSGdem_0905, _FSGdem_1001, _FSGdem_1002, _FSGdem_1004, _FSGdem_1005, _FSGdem_1105, _FSGdem_1106

The 39 files without the underscore total 1,727,271 KB.

The above 21 files with the underscore at the beginning total 2,430,108 KB.

The 21 are more KB's than the 39!

Doesn't that underscore mean they won't be used? I made a flight in Cuba and didn't notice anything impressive. Seemed like stock mesh to me.

Hi,

The underscore assures that they will be used.  Some areas of the world have the same resolution as the FSG files, albeit from a different dataset, or from source data that has not been properly preprocessed to eliminate anomalies, or the SRTM voids were filled with low-resolution data, so the underscore assures that the FSG files will be used instead of the default files with similar resolution.
