FSGenesis scenery library entry in FSX
« on: February 24, 2010, 08:05:04 AM »
Hello,
I am completely new to this so please forgive a dumb question.  I have installed the FSGenesis mesh for Canada/USA and people tell me to activate the FSGenesis Mesh entry in my scenery library.  (FSX)  When I ran the installer it told me that everything was succesfully installed, but there was nothing to activate in the scenery library and I can't find an entry for FSGenesis anywhere.  So if someone could tell me where to locate it and then where to put it in the scenery library I would be very grateful.   ???

Thanks up front.

Cheers, Fritz

Hi Fritz,

If you installed to the default location, for those products no Scenery Library entry is necessary because they were installed to a folder that's already in the Scenery Library.

Hope this helps

Justin,

O.K., thank you.  I assume it's the same for FSG Alaska v.2.

May your shadow never grow shorter, Fritz

HI,

No, not the same for AK V2.  V2 Alaska contains airport files and layering is critical, so it goes in its own folder with corresponding separate Scenery Library entry.  There will be future airport files for US and Canada that will go in their own folders, but we're not quite there yet.

Right, then, where should it be in the library?  I have UTX Alaska, UTX Canada, GEX, Tongass Fjords and Victoria+.  And FSG, of course.

Thanks, Fritz

Hi Fritz,

It should go above those.

Hi,

It seems there's some confusion here!  I use Win 7 (like millions of others I guess) and have never succeeded in 'manually' adding FSG Alaska, Hawaii (nor the updates) to my scenery library. (Not sure about NA, or if it had to be added to the libarary in the same way).

The FSG download wrapper tells you straight up to add Alaska and Hawaii to the Library as scenery areas. It adds that in the case of Win 7 I "may need to click on the respective scenery folder and then right-click in the dialogue window to enable."  It I'm sorry but I have been unable to understand/implement these instructions in a way that adds any scenery.

But wait - from what I am now reading in this thread it appears you don't actually need to add them as scenery areas. Which is right?

I have 'Addon Scenery' enabled in the Scenery Library. Does this mean FSX will automatically detect all the entries in that folder, including Alakas, Hawaii, NA etc?  Whatever, some clarification needed I think.

Best regards

Gareth

HI Gareth,

I have no experience with Windows 7, so am just going by what I've heard concerning adding folders to the scenery library.  From what I recall, you have to also click on the scenery folder, then right-click within the dialog window.  Maybe someone more experienced with Windows 7 can chime in here with better instructions.

Generally, follow the instructions contained with the product.  If it specifically tells you you have to add it to the Scenery Library, then do so.  If it speciically says you don't need to add it to the Scenery Library, do not do so.  Generally if the product contains only terrain mesh, layering is not critical because of the way FS handles terrain mesh files.  Priority is automatically established, so it is installed by default to a folder that already has a Scenery Library entry, so no further configuratioin is needed.  More recent V2 products, such as North Atlantic, Hawaii, and Alaska also contain airport files and layering could be more critical so they are installed to their own folder, which will need to be added to the Scenery Library.

Here is a recent link that may help for Windows 7:

Justin,

Thanks, your comments were most helpful. Via the link you provided, dboley's post (thanks db) enabled me to install FSG Alaska, Hawaii and NAtlantic as discrete scenery areas. Curious method in FSX, but it works.

So does this forum!

Best,

Gareth

Regarding the placement of FSGAK, FSGHI and FSGNA in the Scenery Library hierarchy - at the top?  I also have REX, GEX, UTX installed.  Thanks.

Hi, I'm trying desperately to get this to work. I've followed everything said here, and in the other linked thread, with no luck. I'm using Win 7. I have installed the meshes into FSX, and went into the Add Scenery dialogue. I can move to and select the FSGAlaska and Hawaii folders, but beyond that, I get the same problem that pivo11 had.

Can someone please tell me *precisely* what to do after selecting the FSGAlaska folder? Here's some screens of what I'm seeing:
