How do I know scenery files installed OK?
« on: March 14, 2010, 09:23:12 PM »
Installed the North America NADEM-X_US......   (All) and I can not see any difference in definition or ovqrall quality of the mountains, bays, etc (compared with what I had before in my FSX SP2 out of the box installation) I ran the exec install instead of the manual install.
(1) is that normal?
(2) I noticed that the FSG files were appended to the existing directories in the fsx scenry folder and subfolders and that the previously existing files were not deleted. (is that OK?)
(3) Cant remember the right setting for SETTINGS-DISPLAY Scenery tab you recommend to notice improvement. I refer to: (a) Level of detail radius, (b) Mesh compplexity, (c) Mesh resolution I recall reading a prompt at installation saying 10m

HI,

10m terrain has a shorter display radius than higher resolutions.  This is hard-coded in the terrain engine for performanxce purposes. You won't see much of a difference in distant terrain or from a high altitude.  The differences would be seen within about 20-25 km and from lower altitudes and on the ground.

You won't see any difference in "bays" as they are flat sea-level.  The difference elsewhere will be more subtle going from 38m to 10m than they would be going from, say, 612m to 76m or 38m or 10m.

Make sure your Mesh resolution slider is set to 10m or higher.
