I admit to being disappointed Alaska won't be done in 19m but hopefully in the future.  In the meantime I'd like to suggest continuing the 9.6m series.  Doing some national parks would be nice.  Mt Rainier in Washington is  one.  Glacier in Montana is a second.  There are many others I'm sure.   :)

Hi,

Well, if 10m source data for Alaska ever becomes available, there will be a higher resolution Alaska terrain mesh product released.  Sort of limited by available source data.

The National Parks are already done.  Mt Ranier would be included in the Washington 19m product, for instance.

Oh sure the parks are in 19m since they are part of the states.  I was thinking 9.6m like the grand canyon (which I'm flying now) and yellowstone.  For when you're finished with Canada and the US and have nothing else to do.

Hi Rich,

I would be doing 9.6m for FS2004, except FS2004 doesn't display 9.6m terrain, it turns out.  What you are seeing in the Grand Canyon is actually 19m terrain.  FS2004 doesn't have the capability of displaying LOD12, 9.6m terrain.  A few months after F2004 was released someone did an analysis and determined that 19m terrain was the highest resolution FS2004 could display.  This was subsequently confirmed by MS.

9.6m for FS2004 would create files 4 times larger than 19m terrain, without any improvement in the display.

Heh.  It looks really nice.  I guess I can toss the LOD 12 stuff I downloaded and reduce the config thing to 21.  If this grand canyon is 19 m then I'm going to fly glacier park in MT next.  Thanks for the info.

Btw, I bought the US landscape a few years ago.  At that time there was some discussion about the possibility of it being updated, some people were talking about errors here and there.  Do you anticipate a new version in the future?

HI,

You don't have to toss what you've installed, unless disk space is an issue.  The 9.6m still works fine.  It just displays as 19m.  That said, if you have the new 19m AZ, you probbaly don't need the old 9.6m Grand Canyon.  I have removed it from the store, but it still works fine.

I joined for a year so I'm downloading everything.   ;D

The 19m mesh looks excellent.  Hopefully Alaska will be doable in the near future since that's where I spend a lot of my flying time.  In the meantime I got the 38m.

I think you missed this question a couple posts back:
