Airport Plateaus / Re: LEMD Madrid
« on: April 04, 2011, 07:22:35 AM »
Thanks for the great and fast reply Justin. I actually figured that fixing these issues is indeed a heavy work, especially for fs9, reading your previous post.

I asked nonetheless because there had been a quick fix like the one you mention, for another piece of scenery, the FSdreateam Vegas (KLAS).
A simple user there, provided a fix in a zipped .bgl, on the developper forum, and that third party fix solved the huge plateau effect in Vegas.

And that fix, actually made my buy the product (a scenery that causes a serious plateau effect is a no-go for me ).

So, I tried some time ago to go and ask on the Madrid dev's forum, unfortunately, it's not Aerosoft (they're only the publisher), the dev is Simwings,
and their forum is german speaking only, I could not even register their forum.

I asked the same Simwings, by the way, to consider this plateau issue for their next awaited scenery, Anchorage, Alsaka. As a matter of fact, even the defaut Anchorage produced weird plateau with your 38m mesh. Havent been given a reply yet, as to they will or wont adress this issue before the release of their scenery.

Thanks again anyway Justin, looking forward to trying a Madrid fix from you one day. Would it help if we give you the FS alitude of the Aerosoft LEMD?

Regards

Hi Justin,

Like many of us I believe, I am about to buy the newly released NEXTmap Spain mesh, but I thought I'd bump that thread and ask if on this occasion, something could be made about the Aerosoft's Madrid Barajas airport (LEMD) plateau. It's more of a request perhaps. If I knew a fix was made available for that specific airort, that would hasten me to buy the NEXTmap mesh  :)

Hi Justin,

I'm visiting the FSG store page on a daily basis, and everything seems frozen, any clue as to when updated Sweden and the announced ASTER Norway, Caucasus meshes are going to be released?   ::)

Suggestions / Caucasus
« on: February 17, 2011, 03:38:43 AM »
Hi Justin,

Do you plan, once you've finished Norway for Instance, to provide us with Caucasus? Since we have Iran and Turkey, it would be nice to have its border countries like Armenia, Georgia and Azerbadjian because they share mountains areas, and in FS the borders between Turkey, Iran and Caucaus is pretty much noticable because of the les detailed mesh for Caucasus. Dagestan would also be welcomed, more generally the mesh between the north and caspian sees. Thought I'd ask before you move onto other areas of the world.

Airport Plateaus / Re: Cairo HECA and Egypt LOD11

Thought I'd post a screenshot of what the the Egypt mesh (and all the LOD11 mesh of course) can achieve: that's over Sinai, with the red sea in the background...  :)

Those mesh really makes a big difference!

Airport Plateaus / Cairo HECA and Egypt LOD11

Hi again Justin,

I've just installed the new Egypt LOD11 mesh in fs9, along with many others, as you know.

I thought I'd report one plateau airports which would deserve a special attention because it is no doubt  a major airport in the middle east, and not only in RL, also for simmers,
a frequent and loved destination, Cairo Intl Airport.

Since there's no good addon rendition of that airport I'm aware off so far, I use the default fs2004 Cairo HECA.

I've just been slewing above Sinai area, and the LOD11 mesh gives nothing but spectacular results :o, even with the default TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=19.

I hope a fix for Cairo airport can be foreseen, I tried to modify the airport elevation within ADE but that doesnt help.
I know there is no automatic process for plateau in fs9, yet isnt there a way to 'exclude' some parts of the FSG mesh in the near vicinity of majors airports, especially in some rather flat areas like Cairo?

FS2004 / Re: Mesh around KLAS

Hi Justin,

So, is there a way to fix that KLAS on a plateau in FS9?
I edited the field's height in the AFCAD, I thought that would fix, but it didnt help. ???

There are other airports on plateau like KLAS, so I wonder if there's a know fix for that. I understand you concentrate on FSX now, yet many ofus are still using FS9.

Hi,

I am actually stunned to read your post, since I made not later than yesterday a small flight from Salt Lake City to LA, via Vegas, since I wanted to fly over the Grand Canyon. And I noticed indeed KLAS is on a plateau, and I logged to the forum to post the very same question!
I guess it's because of the AFCAD I use for Vegas, I havent checked the AFCAD yet and see if by changing its elevation data within the AFCAD can solve the issue.

Before I do, I'd appreciate to know if there's any known AFCAD which sort this out.

FS2004 / Re: FS9 mesh issue with terrain under sea level

Okay, you were absolutely right Justin.

I went back to make sure, and that's indeed a lake. Since it's just near the ocean, I thought that was it. My mistake then. Thanks for your fast reply, and am looking forward to reading you about my other questions.

Hi Justin,

Well, I'm afraid that's the ocean, hence my doubts and question.

I know and I've witnessed weird things with lakes, so I know what you mean and I wouldnt have bothered posting if that was a lake.

But now that you ask, you make me doubt. About my paticular problem, I will go back and check further, but I am 90% sure that's the ocean.

Thank you again for the outstanding work. May I ask, on a side note, if you'd see anyting I could edit to improve in my fs9.cfg by the way?

FS2004 / FS9 mesh issue with terrain under sea level
« on: March 10, 2008, 04:00:54 PM »
Gents,

Since I've been using FS9, adding mesh had been one of my favourite hobby. I used some payware mesh (other then FSGenesis) and lots of mesh found freeware at Avsim.

I had a nice collection of mesh, yet I wanted to try the  famous FSGenesis stuff. So I bought the bundle pack fro FS9 last week, installed and wow, (Justin), fantastic work, really, especially the very high res on the european Alps and the north america LOD12 bits  :)

So, I am really happy with FSGenesis. I have a question however, although I've been searching this forum a little bit I couldnt find the solution.

I believe this is a well known issue, and I wish there was a fix for that. The shot was taken few miles north of Ushuaia (Argentina) SAWH, at the top bottom of South America.

I was spotting there since it is a very nice area to fly around for mesh lovers. Unfortunately the whole area has this problem with the sea below land level. I had not the problem with the freeware mesh I was using.

So far, it's the only location I saw like that. I do hope there is no others.

Thought I'd let you know more about my config before you ask:
My FS9.cfg in the terrain section reads:

Quote
[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=19
TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.500000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=9.500000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4

I didnt upgrade to fs 9.1, however I use the terrain.dll that was released with the MSFS 9.1 patch because the original terrain.dll with buggy (as MS admitted when they issued the 9.1 patch)

So, here I am, awaiting some help here.

Oh, almost forgot. Does the install routine on the DVD modify anything else than the scenery.cfg? I ask because I actually added the FSGenesis meshes manually, I didnt use the installer.

Regards,

Arnaud
